Agility Robotics is an American company currently working on a robot which has been designed to have two legs. The company have named the robot ‘Cassie’.
The robot is designed to have flexible movement, while also being stable. It also has legs instead of wheels. The design has made sure that the robot has legs instead of wheels so that the robot can move around easily in different terrains. If the design made sure that the robot had wheels instead of legs, it would not be able to move around as effectively. It also has a battery life between 6 and 8 hours.
Due to the design and structure of the robot, researchers involved with the project think that this robot will be better suited to provide help with search and rescue missions along with delivering packages. This is because the robot will be able to navigate through all kinds of weather as well as lower itself and stand back up. The design also means that the robot can withstand falls without becoming damaged as the structure is well built and strong. Having the robot delivering packages to customers means that deliveries being made on all days throughout the year and at all times throughout the day will be better for both companies and customers as the customers would not have to wait for what seems like months on end before receiving their packages.
When delivering packages, the robots will be joined by “automated” vans, which will drive up to an address and the robot will have to ‘walk’ up to the customer’s front door. The robot has been designed to walk steady, so the packages won’t be damaged just from it moving from the van to the front door.
The robot will also provide massive help when being used on search and rescue missions. This is because the design allows it to adapt to different terrain and it will be able to move around where other robots can’t because they have wheels.
