Have you heard of mirror writing? No… Well neither had I until recently and it is actually extremely interesting!
So what is mirror writing? Well the clue is in the name. Mirror writing is where words are wrote from right to left with the letters being wrote backwards, thus allowing the words to be read perfectly through a mirror.
Where did mirror writing originate? It is said to have been the idea of none other than the great Leonardo Da Vinci! The reason for Leonardo inventing such a strange way of writing was mostly for security as people would struggle to figure out what was actually written on the page, this ensured that his ideas would be safe from unwanted eyes. Leonardo was an extremely smart man especially for the time he was alive, for example when he was making notes about his ideas he would write in the mirror technique but if he wanted people to understand he would write normally.
It is due to this writing style that people thought that Leonardo Da Vinci may have been dyslexic. The reason for people thinking this is because it is apparently easier for a person who is dyslexic to do mirror writing. This is the only big evidence they have that Leonardo could possibly be dyslexic, although I feel if he was to practice mirror writing over and over he would soon be able to write that way with ease. Either way Leonardo Da Vinci was an extremely intelligent man and was able to write both normal and mirrored which why I believe that he used mirror writing for security reasons, after all he did invent many things that were far ahead of his time.
Is there no end to to this man’s talents?
