Would you be surprised if I was to tell you that England didn’t invent football in the 19th century? Well its true because the first ever reports of the game can be found in writing dating all the way back to around 476 BC, at that time it was known as ‘Cuju’ and it involved players kicking leather balls through holes that were made in pieces of cloth. It wasn’t until football became standardised and professional players started to emerge that recognisable goalposts developed into the game. Even though the first reports of the game go way back there is still a debate whether the English actually did invent the game this is because they did invent the name football but the game they created was running around and kicking the ball. One thing is for sure football has been around for a long time and has a very interesting history.
There has been many standout moments over the history of football like the very first winner of the premier league when it was formed in 1992 which was Manchester United, or the premier league season of 2003/2004 when Arsenal F.C went unbeaten in the league to get a record of 26 wins 12 draws and 0 loses. One of the greatest thing about football is the fact that every individual fan has their own favourite moments and memories that they will never forget.
Football will always have its legends of the game and the fan favourite players whether it is because of the skill of the individual or the personality of the player. For example players like Gary Lineker, who never got booked once over all his 546 games that he played, David Beckham who is loved by fans no matter what team he played for and he even donated his whole wage to French children’s charities or even the modern day legends like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo who are loved by football fans all over the world for being so talented.
Fans of football are so passionate about the team they support especially when it’s the world cup and each nation shows extraordinary support to each team is why football is one of the biggest sports in the world!
