Chilblains… These are also commonly known as Pernio, this is an area of the skin in which becomes swollen, red and itchy, it is often very painful. Chilblains are caused by a skin reaction to the cold, although common not everyone suffers from them. You will often end up with chilblains on the more open areas of the body, such as: Nose, fingers, toes and the ears however you can get them on your thighs, lower legs and the heels. (These are a common occurrence in horse riders/ people of which work outdoors.) Chilblains can be very uncomfortable as they bring along with them a burning/ itching sensation, they are often red to begin with later turning purple. You will experience tenderness in the area, blisters are not uncommon potentially delaying the healing process. Chilblains overall are not pleasant so wrap up guy’s!
